Meet Laurie Witt – STEM Teacher for Martinsville City Schools

“Every December, my K-5 students in STEM participate in the Hour of Code during CSEdWeek.”

“The highlight for my students and their families is our annual Coding, Cookies and Cocoa Night. Students in K-5 are able to showcase their coding skills by participating in a variety of online coding challenges. Families get to experience what their students are learning in Computer Science not just for one hour, but throughout the academic year. A variety of robot missions and challenges lets students and parents work together using these same skills to solve fun problems.”

“Families get to experience what their students are learning in Computer Science not just for one hour, but throughout the academic year.”

“During the elementary years, parents see their students start in Kindergarten using directional blocks of code and progress to fifth grade using syntax and creating lines of code. Hour of Code is a great way to get your students started in coding, and a fantastic opportunity to celebrate students’ success in Computer Science!”
