Kristina Lee - Educator Spotlight

“Introducing computer science to students and educators is a source of great inspiration for me as an educator because CS is the future, fosters critical thinking, supports equity and inclusion, and encourages lifelong learning.”

“Computer Science is a field that supports every aspect of the world. By providing students with Experiential Learning opportunities in CS, I am helping them gain the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute to technical advancements and solve critical problems. Computer Science teaches skills through computational thinking exercises and isn’t just about coding, it’s about encouraging students to express themselves not only in computer science but to integrate it into other subject areas as well.”

“Being a woman of color in Computer Science, I am hopeful that I can bring more inclusive and equitable tech industry partners to our students. I’m inspired by the opportunity to bridge the digital divide and provide ALL students with the tools they need to access rewarding careers and opportunities in CS. Computer Science is constantly evolving, and I am excited to be a part of that change.”

“The position of Experiential Learning Coordinator was established through a GoVirginia Grant, and our school division was fortunate to be one of the two recipients of funding dedicated to supporting Computer Science. Over the past three years of my tenure in this role, I’ve worked in collaboration with 49 organizations to develop 411 internships and experiential learning opportunities for our students. We are delighted to have had the opportunity to offer 352 LCPS students genuine, real-world experiences. As we move forward, I hope to see more industry partners seize the opportunity to collaborate with our local school division, providing students with meaningful learning experiences. This connection holds profound significance and can be life-changing for our students.”
