Special Events
CodeVA regularly has special events that volunteers are able to join us for throughout the year. These events either happen once, reoccur on different schedules, or are scheduled as needed. More information about each volunteer opportunity is available below.
CodeDay
We work alongside CodeDay by SRND to help host 24-hour Code-a-thons for students in the Greater Richmond area. Students are provided with facilitators and volunteers to help students with their Coding goals.
CodeDay volunteers are assigned to provide assistance and support for facilitators and students. No orientation needed. Volunteers are not required to stay the full 24 hour duration, but are invited to if interested. *Due to Covid-19, no Code Days are currently available

Family Code Night
CodeVA hosts a monthly Family Code Night at a designated public space (ex. Richmond Public Library) where families are invited to come for a night of Computer Science family activities, ranging from Finch Robots, to Ozobot racing and more.
Family Code Night volunteers are assigned to come in and represent CodeVA by offering support to families during CS activities and also providing information about CodeVA events and workshops to those who inquire. *Due to Covid-19, no Code Days are currently available

CodeVA Box Drives
CodeVA hosts monthly Box Drives to assist with sending materials and supplies for Educator Enchrichment, Full Steam Ahead, Eureka Workshop and other events. All Box Drives are held at our main Office at 300 E. Broad St.
Volunteers are assigned the role of assisting CodeVA staff organize, pack and ship materials to various locations across the state. *Due to Covid-19, all Box-Drives are scheduled to two volunteers per hour in separate stations, adhering to the social distancing guidelines. All volunteers and staff are provided with PPE equipment upon arrival.
