Special Events

CodeVA regularly has special events that volunteers are able to join us for throughout the year. These events either happen once, reoccur on different schedules, or are scheduled as needed. More information about each volunteer opportunity is available below.

We work alongside CodeDay by SRND to help host 24-hour Code-a-thons for students in the Greater Richmond area. Students are provided with facilitators and volunteers to help students with their Coding goals.

CodeDay volunteers are assigned to provide assistance and support for facilitators and students. No orientation needed. Volunteers are not required to stay the full 24-hour duration, but are invited to if interested.

Family Code Night

CodeVA hosts a monthly Family Code Night at a designated public space (ex. Richmond Public Library) where families are invited to come for a night of Computer Science family activities, ranging from Finch Robots, to Ozobot racing and more.

Family Code Night volunteers are assigned to come in and represent CodeVA by offering support to families during CS activities and also providing information about CodeVA events and workshops to those who inquire.
