Crafty Computing

Cost: $150.00

Younger students may not be developmentally ready to learn text-based programming. However, they are more than prepared to learn Computer Science concepts. In this class, we combine craft activities that demonstrate Computer Science concepts with drag and drop programming. A favorite example of this hands-on learning would be creating electronic circuits with Play-Doh. This exercise illustrates how computers communicate with one another. Throughout, kids apply their hands-on experiences to develop programs with Scratch, a fun, and intuitive programming language. Crafty Computing builds problem-solving skills, vocabulary, and confidence while encouraging exploration.

Arcade Design

Cost: $150.00

This Summer’s camp theme is The Arcade experience. During this session of camp, all of our classes will culminate in a Friday evening event that transforms CodeVA into a Video Game Arcade. The students in Arcade Design will be responsible for the planning, design, and transformation that will make our space a true to life Arcade. Students will use design and engineering processes to conceptualize and create a brand new space for the event. Resources such as programmable LED lights as well as robotic and computerized elements will allow students to transform CodeVA into a one of a kind kid-made techno-wonderland straight out of their imaginations. This class will foster creativity in design while giving kiddos the autonomy to create THEIR arcade.
