Web Projects

Cost: $150.00

Building a website is a great skill to have. Making a site to tell your story is a powerful way to express yourself. In this project-based class, students will embark on an artistic adventure. While creating a visual art project, students will also learn the mechanics of website creation. Using all the skills gathered from their accomplishments, students will build a website to document their hands-on learning experience and art creation.

Graphic Novels

Cost: $300.00

Pictures can tell a thousand words, but what if you could also create a video game alongside them?! Graphic novels and video games have a lot in common such as utilizing loops and understanding how to make a program accessible to its user. Campers will learn how to make their graphic novel that they can convert into a video game. By the end of the camp, campers will be able to proudly take home the graphic novel that they designed as a hardback book alongside their own video game that they programmed. By combining art, writing, and programming, there is truly something for everyone in this camp!

E-Textiles

Cost: $150.00

When combining technology with fashion, the possibilities are endless. Kids will sew with conductive thread and use led lights to create a functioning piece of technology. Craft materials are continually evolving as technology advances. Looking back at several ways craft and technology have intertwined will help students notice the many ways e-textiles are quietly becoming a part of our everyday lives. Combining art with tech is a fun way to express your interests and personality.

Electronics 101

Cost: $150.00

If computer science is telling the computer what exactly we want them to do, how do they understand? How do they receive and deliver information? Electricity! This course will explore electronic concepts through projects that reinforce the basic operations of computers.

On screen and off we will analyze what makes a good game, explore all the moving parts, and create our own game. This camp takes information and logic from traditional games and applies it to the digital world.

Minecraft

Cost: $150.00

Learn Computer Science using one of the world’s most beloved games, Minecraft. This wildly popular game is also a wildly powerful tool to teach the core mechanics of Computer Science. Activities will include experiencing collaborative building and problem-solving exercises, networked Minecraft play to promote teamwork and group creativity, and offline pixel projects. But beware: Redstone, Creepers, and Pork Chops are all here!

Console Construction

Cost: $150.00

This Summer’s camp theme is The Arcade experience. During this session of camp, all of our classes will culminate in a Friday evening event that transforms CodeVA into a Video Game Arcade. The students in Console Construction will be responsible for the planning, design, and creation of the gaming consoles that will be used to play the original video games created for the Arcade. Students will learn the electrical and computer programming components needed to make a one of a kind video game console.

Robot Wrangling

This class takes programming in the direction of robotics. With so many things that can be made and modified to satisfy an imagination, why not focus on the wonder of robots? This class is overflowing with opportunities to challenge a student’s fine motor skills and brainpower. Robot themed projects will engage and stimulate the kiddo’s creative curiosities. Students will program robotic devices we have on hand as well as build simple machines of their own.
