Amazon CS Ready Schools
Is your school Computer Science Ready?
Amazon Future Engineer has partnered with CodeVA to expand computer science education for 500,000 students. With Virginia’s mandatory K-8 Computer Science Standards of Learning, this partnership will create access to training to over 12,000 teachers in high Need schools. Computer Science-Ready Schools will receive resources from both Amazon and CodeVA. Help build the Digital Dominion by becoming an Amazon Computer Science-Ready School!
Here are some resources that CodeVA will provide to Computer Science-Ready Schools:
- SCRIPT Training – Using CSforALL’s Strategic CSforALL Resource and Implementation Planning Tool, CodeVA will help your school develop a strategic plan to expand upon computer science education for your students. SCRIPT provides reflections and conversation among your school stakeholders (examples: Principal, leadership team, content leads, ESL teacher, Exceptional Ed teacher, PTA/PTO, business/community), thereby building an ecosystem around computer science and exposing all students to the mandated K-8 standards of learning.
- Administrator and Counselor Training – Administrators and counselors will receive training and materials to support faculty as they move toward rigorous K-12 computer science education. Counselors are also able to use this training to assist with career exploration with students.
- Network Improvement Community (NIC) – Network Improvement Communities are scientific learning communities that focus on a goal and work together by focusing on the “how” to accelerate solutions. Your school will become a part of a NIC along with the other Computer Science-Ready pilot schools.
- Free Teacher Training – CodeVA’s state funded programs provide free computer science professional learning to Virginia’s public school educators at all grade levels. In addition, as a Computer Science-Ready School, a minimum of two teachers from your school would attend CodeVA’s Coaches Academy designed to prepare district employees to do computer science professional development at their school.
