Teacher Training’s Coronavirus Response

3 April, 2020

With the advent of COVID-19 and the closure of schools across Virginia, CodeVA is working to continue to serve educators and families. With the unprecedented situation, our normal summer training model of in-person sessions at hubs located across Virginia is not feasible for 2020.

In order to provide high quality Professional Learning sessions that are flexible in meeting the needs of educators across Virginia, CodeVA has revised the structure of summer sessions. The new model supports teacher learning and community building through a blend of live, online classes and asynchronous learning activities. The content and high quality of our existing programs will not change, only the format.

Instead of our traditional in-person hub model, all sessions will be scheduled virtually over a three-week period in July. In order to make this new online format effective and mitigate the fatigue of days and hours of Zoom meetings, individual programs will not meet daily. Longer programs that normally meet four to five days in the summer will meet twice a week over these three weeks. Shorter programs will meet a handful of times over the three weeks, typically on Fridays.
