Amazon is Coming and Virginia Schools Are Ramping Up Computer Science Education

“If we can train the workforce, [companies] will come and they’ll thrive in the commonwealth of Virginia,” Gov. Ralph Northam said this Monday. “So the sooner we can reach out and the younger we can reach out to expose our children to these career paths, the better.”

The governor on Monday kicked off Computer Science Education Week across the state, a time officials hope will inspire students to get interested in a sector that is growing four times faster than the national average. The week, which runs through Sunday, includes different events and “hour of code” programs, or one-hour introductions to computer science and computer programming.
